Support Our Research

If you would like to join us in the fight to combat neurodegenerative disorders, including myotonic dystrophy, ataxia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Huntington’s disease, and neuropsychiatric disorders, please consider a financial gift.

Donations can be made via credit card, check, transfers of stock, real estate, or planned gifts such as wills, trusts, and annuities.  You may also donate to the Center for NeuroGenetics using the University of Florida Foundation secure website by clicking HERE.

Please see below for additional information regarding donations that can be directed towards something you feel passionate about. If using the link above please make sure to indicate in the comments section any specific instructions on how you would like your donation to be used. You can also send us an email at centerforneurogenetics@health.ufl.edu.

Donate to Support Research

There are many ways to support the cutting edge research happening here at the Center for NeuroGenetics. Donations in any amount can be made to directly support a specific disease such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myotonic dystrophy (DM), Huntington’s disease (HD) or the spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs).  The goal of the Center for NeuroGenetics is to advance our understanding of these disorders so we can develop rational and effective therapeutic strategies for patients.

Donate to Support Trainees at the CNG

Donations can also be made to support the next generation of scientific researchers here at the CNG by providing fellowships, scholarships, travel awards or project support to one of the many young researchers who have decided to focus their research careers on one of these rare diseases. Awards greater than $500 can be created with a title to acknowledge the donor/family/foundation (i.e. The Joan Doe travel award). Donations of any amount, even as small as $50, are welcome and will help our trainees.

Travel Awards – provides supplemental support for a trainee to attend a scientific research conference.  Traveling to scientific meetings and conferences is an important component of scientific training. Students and postdocs require opportunities to network, present their research, and form new collaborations with scientists at other research institutions around the world. These interactions are essential for developing new hypotheses, practicing scientific communication, and identifying future training and career opportunities.

Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowshipprovides a college student (still attending school to obtain their first University degree) with a summer scholarship to work on research over the summer in one of the CNG laboratories.  At the end of the summer, students will present their research to members of the CNG and the university research community.  Donors may also request that a summary of what the student accomplished during their summer be provided back to them. This type of donation is a great opportunity to engage with the next generation of potential scientists and get them interested in a future career working on these diseases.

Graduate or post-doctoral fellowship – provides one time or recurring support for a fellowship for a graduate (working to obtain their PhD) or post-doctoral fellow (already have PhD and specializing in an area of research) working in one of the CNG research laboratories. Funds can be used towards supporting the yearly salary costs of these advanced trainees or towards reagents and supplies to support their research. Donors will have the opportunity to designate a title for the fellowship (i.e. The John Doe Fellowship for Myotonic Dystrophy Research) if they want and will be provided with summary updates on the progress of the trainee.

Trainee project support – provides support to help purchase laboratory reagents, research supplies, equipment and other vital materials for a project of interest to the donor in one of the CNG laboratories. This support can be specific to a disease that is of particular interest to the donor, general to help support research in one CNG lab or across the entire CNG.
